Devraj Ashok is the Managing Partner of the Firm's New Delhi office, having recently merged his law firm (which had offices in Delhi and Bangalore) with Atman Law Partners on January 1, 2012. His practice areas include litigation, corporate and transactional matters.
Devraj represents Indian and overseas clients in connection with domestic and foreign direct investments, India entry strategies, venture capital and private equity investments, infrastructure projects and procurement and supply agreements. Devraj also represents and advices clients on litigation matters and represents clients in matters before courts.
Devraj started his career with a law firm advising clients on transactional and litigation matters. He represented several leading companies such as Lacoste India, Citibank and certain Indian politicians in several matters before courts and in corporate transactions. He also assisted the State of Punjab in its inter-state river water disputes with the State of Haryana.
During, his subsequent practice as an independent legal practitioner, he represented several private companies and government owned corporations such as the East India Hotels, Jaypee Group of Companies, Gujarat Ambuja Cements Limited, Minerals and Metals Trading Corporation of India and the State Trading Corporation in several transactional and corporate structuring matters.
He was appointed as the Additional Standing Counsel to represent the Union of India in matters before the Supreme Court of India and the High Court of Delhi. He was also appointed as the Additional Standing Counsel to represent the State of Haryana in matters before the Supreme Court of India. Devraj successfully represented several clients in more than 300 matters in various fora.
Devraj later worked with a top-tier U.S based law firm, for about four years, as the head of litigation for India and also as a transactional lawyer. He represented and advised several multi-national and foreign corporations in several high profile and high stake matters, including foreign direct investment and green field ventures. Devraj has extensive contacts and networks with lawyers all over India and has assisted multinational clients successfully in various courts in India.
Represented the Aditya Birla Group in its telecom disputes with the Tata Group of Companies before the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India.
Represented and advised LG Group of Companies in litigation matters in India.
Represented and advised Tech Mahindra Limited in its acquisition of Satyam Computers Limited.
Represented Sinopec Group of Companies in intellectual property matters and litigation matters before the Bombay High Court in Maharashtra.
Represented and advised Sinorgchem Group of Companies in anti-dumping proceedings in India.
Represented and advised Daiichi-Sankyo Company limited in its multi-billion dollar acquisition of Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited in India. Also represented Daiichi-Sankyo Company Limited in various forums and government departments in connection with certain disputes with shareholders of Ranbaxy Laboratories Limited.
Represented and advised Bombardier Inc., a Canada based airline and rail manufacturer in their negotiations with the Planning Commission of India and investments in metro-rail projects in India as a PPP project.
Represented and advised Federal-Mogul Corporation, a U.S based automotive parts manufacturer in their foreign direct and joint-venture investments in India.
